Um, I think this is considered contraband as well. And Johnny Depp is a freedom-hater who has chosen the wasteland of France over this great nation. Of course we love Gene Wilder the best.

Technically, there is no such thing as a completely unbiased opinion. And BTW, didn't Vannetts die in a tragic accident several years back?
Gene Wilder was quite the best friend of liberals, at least at one time. The nostalgia in me can never think anyone can top his performance (we ARE the music makers), but I have to admit that while I went to see the new one reluctantly, I was very impressed. Its a closer match to Dahl's book, and that always impresses a reader.
But did Wilder move to France? I think not. Yeah I know the new movie is more like the books, but I still like Gene's dry wit the best.
Vindication! Thank you, friend.
but what i meant in unbiased opinion is don't judge the actor himself, judge the character he played. it's the same as saying don't judge a book by its cover

besides, shane, johnny depp's best performance was in Pirates of the Caribean!

Well, the opinion from Colorado is the Johnny Depp is the best Willy Wonka there could ever be. He TOTALLY rocks in this role. (I ignore the things he says outside of movies, he can be quite silly that way.) Kisa and I saw Charlie for the 3rd time today, on IMAX - it was great! We got the soundtrack, too. Deep Roy as all of the Oompah Loompahs was just too, too funny. :-)

Johnny Depp was better hands down. And I loved the first movie. But this movie shouldn't be compared to it. The other movie was just that. A movie. This new (and better) movie is based on the book.
Johnny Depp absorbs the character and becomes him. Gene Wilder kind of adapted him to his own liking. Not saying he did a bad job...
Anyway, Tim Burton's my hero in more ways than one, so you can't go wrong.
PLUS! Johnny Depp is waaaay more attractive than Gene Wilder. XD I admit it - I like pasty antsy guys with delicate features and pretty clothes. Ha!
Oh, and I almost forgot... You can't listen to actors or singers when they aren't doing what you enjoy them doing. They're different people with their own ideas and you can't expect them to think like you. ^^
